Gulf Islands National Seashore – Post- Hurricane Katrina CIR Photography
The EAARL system also includes two digital cameras. One is a three band multispectral camera with green, red, and infrared bands. It provides approximately
1600x1200 20cm pixels. Each photo is taken exactly on the GPS second. The second camera is a lower resolution RGB camera also operating at 1-Hz. It
provides roughly 70-90cm pixels. The following imagery was collected by EAARL cameras on flights along the Gulf Coast shortly after hurricane Katrina. Please
read below for instructions on how to view the photos in Google Earth.
This data is only available in KML format (Use Google Earth or any compatible KML viewer).

Notes
- How to overlay EAARL photos.
After loading an above link into Google Earth (GE), put a check in the checkbox beside the "Temporary Places" under the "Places" list on the left side of GE. Little
airplane icons will appear. Clicking on the little airplanes will popup a message box where you can select our high or low resolution photography for that "minute of
flight". An airplane icon is depicted for each minute of flight. The photographs are taken once per second, so there are 60 photos between each airplane icon. To
see those photos, click on an airplane, and then click "-60" to see the 60 photos behind the airplane icon or "+60" to see the 60 photos ahead of the airplane symbol.
- Geo-Referencing
The software which created this collection is under development and presently doesn't correct for the aircraft pitch, roll, and heading. This causes the photos to be
in the correct general area, but not perfectly registered. Updated versions of this collection will address this issue.
- Airplane icons all pointing north?
